A Christmas Tale for Mom’s

‘Twas The Night Before Christmas…Mom Style

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the abode
Only one creature was stirring & she was cleaning the commode.
The children were finally sleeping, all snug in their beds,
while visions of X-Box & Barbie flipped through their heads.

Yes, and dad was snoring in front of the TV,
with a half constructed bicycle propped on his knee.
So only the mom heard the reindeer hooves clatter,
which made her sigh, “Now what is the matter?”

With toilet bowl brush still clutched in her hand,
She descended the stairs, and saw the old man.
He was covered with ashes & soot, which fell with a shrug,
“Oh great,” muttered the mom, “Now I have to clean the rug.” (more…)

I Lost Track of Me When I Became A Mom

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

This post was written for me by Betsy Henry at Zen Mama.com, a follow mom blogger. I just had to share it with all of my moms in case you have every felt like you had lost any part of you when you took on the responsibility of motherhood.  I can’t thank Betsy enough for her wisdom and her caring spirit. This is why I love my life.  Everyday one of you moms reaches out to another mom. I love the spirit of sisterhood we all share.

I read this in a social networking site called TwitterMoms today.  A blogger wrote:

“I lost track of me when I became a mom.”

I think all of us moms feel this way.  When you stay home with the kids you become:

Primary Caregiver

Housekeeper

Laundress

Cook

Chauffeur

And many of us work jobs outside the house as well.  For those of us who are married, we give much time to our husbands.  For those of us who are not, our life seems even more difficult with sharing the burden. And with each additional child, a little more of us seems to go.

Whoa, where is the optimist, the positive thinking Zen Mama??  I’m still here.  However, I often felt this way before I began to practice my Zen Mama principles.  So how did I change?  In comes my favorite saying:

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” (more…)

From the Mom B Shelter

Take Cover the Kids are Coming.

Original posting http://themombshelter.blogspot.com/2010/05/it-just-got-whole-lot-dirtier-around.html

Years ago, I ran into a girl I used to go to high school with in the grocery store. We hadn’t seen each other in ten years. Ten years! So much had happened to each of us in that time it was hard to decide where to begin. So I asked her what she had been up to. I was expecting an abbreviated synopsis of her life. Instead, her first sentence was “I’m a mom to two boys”.

What?! Excuse me? In ten years, all you have managed to do is reproduce? Seriously, I didn’t know where to go from there. Obviously she had been living a very sheltered life.

This occurred in 2001 BC, or ‘Before Children’ as I have come to name those fondly remembered years. I was out in the world, making my mark, living it up, getting educated, getting drunk, and getting jobs. The world was my oyster (with a slice of lemon and a dash of Tabasco).

In all of my BC years, I could not have ever envisioned (even with narcotics) what AC years were all about. Keep up, I’m talking about ‘After Children’. But here I am, in my AC years. And now I get it.

When I ran into that old high school friend, she wasn’t telling me about her boys because that is all she had done with those past ten years. She was telling me about her boys because her entire universe had shifted when they entered her life. They were her abbreviated synopsis.

So, for all of you in the AC club, this is my ode to you… (more…)

Never Argue With a Woman

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

One of my mom-stuff friends emailed me this funny story. I had to share it with you. It will make you laugh and brighten your day. Share it with the smart woman in your life.

One morning, the husband returns the boat to their lakeside cottage after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap…

Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, puts her feet up, and begins to read her book. The peace amd solitude are magnificent.

Along comes a Fish and Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside of the woman and says “Good morning, Ma’am. What are you doing?”

“Reading a book,” she replies, (thinking, “Isn’t that obvious?”)

You’re in a Resricted Fishing Area,” he informs her.

“I’m sorry officer, but I’m not fishing. I’m reading.” (more…)
