Declutter From Scratch

I am a big fan of Mini’s book Declutter Fast and her great emails. If you have not heard of her before please check her out. You will be glad you did. Make sure you sign up fro her email. She gives such great information in her emails. I love to receive them. I am sharing with you one of her strategies that really works for me. I live where this time of the year we are cooped up inside, because it is sooooooooooooo hot. So this is when I deep clean my house and do home repairs. I follow Mini’s, Declutter from Scratch plan, one room at a time. There are days when I can’t use my garage but it is total worth it. This may seem like a lot of work but I think that is why it works for me. When the room is empty I clean it thoroughly, I do all repairs that are needed. When it is time to put things back I only want to move back in the things I really want.

Declutter From Scratch from Mini Tanner

A great way to declutter is to take each room – or an entire home – and start from scratch.

This is a way that works for me, that I have put into practice numerous times. It’s one of my favorite ways to declutter.

This way works very well when you’re moving from one place to another. But it can also work when you’re not moving.

When you’re moving, start from scratch at your new place. At the place you’re moving to, have absolutely nothing there but the basics.

If you’re not moving to a new home, then you can still start from scratch. Here’s how:

1. Accomplish this room by room

2. Use a garage or even rent a storage space to take the clutter away from your house, and start from scratch with a totally decluttered house that way.

I know that may sound extreme to some, but I have done this myself, and it definitely helps. When the clutter is somewhere else, your immediate space is clear.

Here’s what to do:

Take everything out of a room that is not absolutely needed and wanted in that room.

Then take a second look at some furniture or other items that perhaps you would be happier and less burdened if these things were not staring you in the face year after year.

What can you let go of, give away, or at least store somewhere else, to open up this room?

After you start from scratch, here’s the key to making this work:

Don’t allow anything back into this room that you don’t want there. Attack any clutter immediately.

It’s much easier to do this with a room that is uncluttered in the first place. That’s the reason for starting from scratch.

When moving to a new place, you can easily do this to an entire home. Your things are in boxes, and they can stay in boxes and stored away while you deal with each box one by one, decluttering as you go.

When you have a clear and spare and beautiful room, then you get to feel the wonderful reverberation of having no clutter.

There’s something about an uncluttered room that takes on an energy that is absolutely invigorating. It creates so many good feelings, and it increases one’s energy. It inspires us to continue the quest to declutter and stay decluttered. Every effort we make adds up. Here’s to order in our lives!

Self Improvement

What do you say when you talk to yourself? Do you use empowering words or self defeating words?

Do you use the words “can’t”, “won’t”, “don’t need to”, “why try”? Do you “should” yourself? I should do this. I should feel this way. I shouldn’t feel this way.
Many people do.

Do you find that what you say to yourself turns out to be true?

Why is this?

You see your brain is like a computer that you imput data into each day. The subconscious mind doesn’t’ know what’s real or not. It takes the information you give it and brings it into your life. Without judgment.

Example: If someone you love has left you. You may tell yourself that all people you love will leave and hurt you too.

Your brain just files this information for reference, it’s data. It does not know if the information is “true or not true?” Now your brain thinks, based on what you told it, that everyone you’ll ever love will leave and hurt you.

How do you think you will respond the next time you start to fall in love?

Right!! You will avoid getting hurt and run away. Or you will bring partners into your life that will fulfill your believe. You will feel abandon each time you lose someone in your life.

There has got to be a better plan.

Now, what if you instead told your subconscious mind:

“Okay this person ripped my heart out and stomped on it. I am really hurting, I am sad and angry… – but that’s only one person. I’m lovable and have many loving people in my life. I know that the right people come into my life at the right time. I will be honest with my feelings of sorrow and anger. I will allow them sometime and then I will let them go. I know that people come and leave my life for a reason and a season.”

Words can be empowering.

I can
I love
I will
I am

We can reach a new level of living, if we feed ourselves with empowering words and practice saying them until they become a habit.

This takes practice. I know firsthand that it takes time. And I also know that it’s worth it.

Catch yourself saying, “I can’t”, when you don’t really mean it and instead try, “I can”, and see how you think and feel about yourself.

Remember, the words you use to empower yourself will have a lasting effect, only if you practice them and they become a habit (an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary).

They say it takes at least 28 days to develop a habit. After a week, you will see that it becomes easier. It’s a mindset and you can control your thoughts. Be proactive and not reactive – give yourself some good words.

Dream big and empower yourself! Believe you can and you will.
